BCBS: Your Blue Store

When Blue Cross Blue Shield RI approached us about designing a flagship retail store, we embraced the challenge of something entirely new: service retail. Partnering with Kite Architects, we began with a six-week discovery phase — interviewing everyone from the CEO to sales associates to members in the lobby — before a single design decision was made.
That groundwork shaped everything. The resulting space is warm, approachable, and deliberately the opposite of clinical: walnut wood accents, a clean white interior with colorful pops, lounge seating, and private meeting rooms designed to put members at ease when discussing something as personal as their health.
Since the flagship opened in East Providence, we have completed two additional locations — each carrying the same philosophy forward. The project earned a 2018 Rhode Island Monthly Design Award, a recognition that belonged to the whole collaborative team.
