Channeling London Roots
Barrington, RI
For these former Londoners, coastal living was never going to mean anchors, sailboats or blue and white. When they traded London for a waterfront home on Narragansett Bay more than twenty years ago, they embraced the move fully. And when it was time to renovate, they embraced the Rocksalt mantra just as readily: redefine coastal living.
The brief was black, white, and gray, with a few well-placed color bombs to jazz it up. We installed wide-plank white oak floors throughout, updated the stair treads to match and added glass and steel railings. Dated lighting gave way to bold modern fixtures — much of it Tom Dixon—a fitting nod to their roots. The kitchen was overhauled: high-gloss white cabinetry with push-touch hardware, honed black granite counters, a sleek rectangular island with hidden storage and the iconic Bertoia barstool. No pendants, no window treatments — with that view, neither was needed.
Fresh furnishings, white walls and a consistent commitment to editing defined the living spaces. If it wasn't needed, it didn't make the cut.
The result: a dazzling modern flat — planted squarely on Narragansett Bay.
